Plans are underway to establish a local group to tackle the growing amount of rubbish washing up on the shores of the Western Isles.

Volunteers to join the group and help in beach cleans are being sought.

A public meeting is being held in Stornoway Town Hall at 7pm tonight.

Suggestions to clean up the coast include awareness raising, promoting refusing and recycle plastics and charter boats to reach less accessible shores.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government is expected to announce new proposals to help reduce marine litter.
