A Benbecula man faces a jail sentence for stabbing his former partner.

Angus Laing Macdonald, 49, of Churchill, Griminish, was convicted of assault following a jury trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Anne Stewart was serious injured when her long term partner stabbed her in Griminish at the beginning of January this year.

Macdonald originally faced an allegation of attempted murder.

He denied the charge and lodged a special defence of self defence.

On Tuesday, the jury found him guilty of assault with a knife while acting under provocation.

The judge called for background reports and remanded Macdonald in custody until sentencing later this month.
