Emergency services rescued a pensioner after his home in Barra was flooded following torrential downpours in the early hours of this morning.

The elderly man - who lives outside Castlebay - was taken to the nearby hospital for safety and shelter.

The incident occurred around 1am as the north travelling weather front moved over Barra.

Streams and ditches were overwhelmed by a large amount of heavy rain and torrents of water flowed down hillsides.

Police said heavy rain affected many roads in Uist and Barra.

Low lying dips in the road were flooded.

There was heavy flooding on roads around Creagorry, in South Uist.
