Second man rejects sexual barter of young girl    20/6/14

A second man has denied being involved in the rape or sexual abuse of a girl some 60 years ago.

The trial of Father John Angus Macdonald, formerly of South Uist, previously heard allegations that when the second man was a child he was involved in the “trading” of a girl for sexual purposes.

The girl, now a woman, gave evidence this week claiming that the first man had bartered a deal to swap her for sex to the second male for a place on a local football team.

She maintained she had gone missing afterwards and a search launched for her. She was found in a catatonic state and bedridden for a period, she said. This event did not involve Macdonald who was on the mainland at the time.

In more recent years, the woman received a phone call from the second man from Australia, she insisted to the court.

That person - who cannot be named for legal reasons - insisted in court on Thursday he had never heard the allegation until a few days ago.

Now a pensioner, that man pointed out he had never travelled abroad.

He told the jury: “I have never been in Australia. I don’t have a passport so I have never been out of the country.”

Defence QC Mark Stewart asked: “At any time as a child or teenager did you have any form of sexual relations with (the girl) against her will.

The man denied he had.

He added: “Did you enter an agreement with (the first boy) for sexual access” to (the girl) so you would let him play in a football team.”

The man said he never had any “such power or ability” to select players.

He said there was no junior team in the area at the time.

Macdonald is charged with raping a nine-year-old girl and a second allegation of carrying out lewd and indecent practices on young boy. On Wednesday, a third accusation of repeated rape against the girl was dropped.

MacDonald, of Ardeonaig, near Stirling - who denies all the charges - would have been a young teenager at the time.

Neither he nor the other man were ever questioned by the police over the allegations made by the alleged victim, the court was told.

The first man also denied sexually abusing the girl.

Macdonald denies the charges. The trial continues.
