Man punched unconscious in attack       27/10/14

An Irish man who punched one man unconscious and assaulted another was penalised a total of £750 when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court recently.

John Paul McCaulay of Meenderry, Falcarrgh, County Donegal, demanded money from his first target on Bank Street, Stornoway. He then grabbed his ear and stole his earring, the court was told.

He moved onto Perceval Square carpark where he punched a second male to the ground. His victim fell and lay unconscious on the ground.

The 30-year-old - who pleaded guilty - was fined £300 and ordered to pay £100 compensation for the first offence. A fine of £450 plus £300 compensation was imposed for the second charge.

McCaulay was warned that he would be sent to jail immediately if he failed to pay.
