Islander killed in car crash       29/6/14

 

A man has been killed in a car crash in North Uist.

 

He was named by police as William Kenneth Morrison of Locheport, North Uist.

 

The 58-year-old transport manager at a local haulage depot suffered serious injuries. It is understood he died at the scene.

 

The smash happened around 8.10pm on Saturday night on the main road at Strombane, just south of Lochmaddy.

 

No other vehicle was involved in the incident.

 

The road was shut overnight until late Sunday afternoon for a police traffic investigation team from Dingwall to arrive off the ferry.

 

Traffic was diverted via the Committee Road at Sollas.

 

A police spokesperson said: “Anyone with any information relating to this collision please contact police Scotland on 101 or contact your local office.”
