Major water improvement works      29/9/14

Scottish Water plans to spend £6.8 million to upgrade water mains and water treatments works in South Uist.

The project is included in the utility firm’s six-year programme to improve drinking water quality.

A £3.5 billion Scotland-wide investment by Scottish Water is backed by £720 million of borrowing from the Scottish Government.

The investment work will support 5,000 construction jobs and will improve drinking water supplies, protect the environment and support the economy.

The Scottish Government said that water charges must remain stable and not increase by more than the rate of inflation.
