Exercise Strike Warrior 24 and will see warships and submarines in the waters off Hebrides from Monday.  

Previously named Joint Warrior, the exercise which involves 35 aircraft and around 2,000 Armed Forces personnel will run until near the end of the month.

Maritime activity, warship and submarine movements are planned in the Minch and Little Minch on every day.

Sea areas west of the Outer Hebrides will see activity in the middle of the exercise.

Daily warnings and updated information to civilian vessels will be broadcast by Stornoway Coastguard on VHF.

A Fisherman’s Hotline telephone number 01923 846364 is available on a 24 hour basis for any mariner with relevant queries relating to the exercise activity.

Anyone discovering anything believed to be unexploded ordnance should not touch the item and dial 999 for coastguard or police.

Live firing, simulated air bombardment, live naval gunfire support and helicopter operations will take place around Cape Wrath from October 14-21.

There will be no GPS denial operations during Strike Warrior 24.

This UK led exercise, which is also part of the NATO training programme will bring together ten allied nations and will include the Carrier Support Group (CSG), which is led by Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales.

The Royal Navy said: “This UK led training exercise and others like it are hugely important for allied partners and the international community as a whole. The training event serves as a valuable opportunity for participants to hone their skills, strengthen relationships, and build trust among participating nations.

“Exercise Strike Warrior and others like it, provide the UK Armed Forces with an opportunity to join partner nations from across NATO to practice using the latest equipment and technologies in realistic military scenarios.

“This enables allies to make informed decisions about the equipment and services they need. This helps improve capabilities to defend more effectively against emerging threats to the UK and the rest of the world.”

Ten NATO nations participating include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, UK, and the United States.

Thirteen naval units including frigates, destroyers, tankers, and submarines from the ten allied nations, will be participating around the Scottish Coast.

A total of 35 aircraft will take part in the exercise with some of them operating from RAF Lossiemouth and HMS Gannet at Prestwick.
