Kerry Macphee has stormed to win the British Mountain Bike Marathon Championship title.

The 28-year-old of Kilphedar, South Uist, was up against tough competition, finishing the endurance 75km course in 4 hours and 31 minutes.

Keeping it in the family was her sister Kirsty, who took first place in the 50km event.

The gruelling race set off from a forest track at Selkirk with challenging spots over rising ground, historic drovers’ roads and exposed rocky hillsides.

Ben Thomas clinched the men’s title with a time of  three hours and 36 minutes.

Some 800 elite mountain bike riders competed in the championships events on Saturday.
