Gaeldom’s premier choir title is awarded    18/10/14

 

Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association has won Gaeldom’s premier choir title.

Known as the GG’s the 45-member strong group clinched the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield on the final day of competitions at the Royal National Mod in Inverness.

On Friday, they squeezed into the top spot with 374 points, two marks ahead of Inverness Gaelic Choir.  Dingwall was placed third with 369 points.

Veteran conductor Kenny Thompson, who the An Comunn Gold Medal as a soloist at the 1979 Stornoway Mod and has supervised the choir for 31 years, received the the silver baton award.

The choir also picked up prizes for the highest marks in Gaelic and in music.

 The GG’s - Scotland’s oldest Gaelic choir - have won the shield sixteen times before - the first occasion being in 1909 and the last in 2010.
