Police Scotland has declared a major incident in North Uist, Harris, Ness and Uig with limited communications and no 999 or 101 services.

 

A number of coastguard/fire/police stations will be manned in the event of an emergency within these areas.

 

To raise the alarm to fire, police, ambulance, GP, coastguard or urgent incidents, people should go to Lochmaddy police station, Benbecula coastguard station, Tarbert fire station, Leverburgh fire station, Scalpay fire station, Ness coastguard station (South Dell) or Uig Coastguard station.

 

The Comhairle and police ask family, neighbours and friends living nearby to assist and support elderly and vulnerable people.

 

Loss of emergency phone communications

With ongoing phone problems in areas of the Southern Isles, people with have healthcare concerns in Uist and Barra should directly attend Ospadal Uibhist agus Bharraigh in Balivanich or St Brendan’s Hospital by Castlebay.

 

St Brendan’s Hospital has a temporary number 01871 810 465 which could also be used.
