Airline Loganair says it will offer more lower priced seats between Stornoway and Glasgow from next week when it introduces a larger plane on the route.

The 50-seat twin-propeller Saab 2000 which has 10% more seats than the usual aircraft will be used on the mid-morning service to help meet a recent increase in demand on flights for Lewis.

It will operate in place a 34-seat Saab 340 aircraft currently used on the service.

Loganair promises more lower-priced seats on Stornoway route

26 March 2015

Flight times on the mid-morning Glasgow to Stornoway service are – 11am to 12.05pm from Glasgow to Stornoway and 12.35pm to 13.35pm Stornoway to Glasgow

Loganair took delivery of three Saab 2000s last spring and the aircraft have been utilised across the airline’s network and charter services.

The airline said the plane was selected for its excellent record on smaller airfields, larger cabin and improved seat pitch. It also benefits from greater noise suppression and increased crosswind limits.

Loganair’s chief operating officer Phil Preston said: “The introduction of the Saab 2000 on our mid-morning service will increase the number of available seats from 816 to 896 per week, and mean we can offer more seats at our lowest fares.

"It is the ideal aircraft and is extremely capable in terms of operating in the challenging conditions often encountered in areas such as Stornoway. We hope our valued passengers will enjoy using this aircraft and the benefits it will bring to the route."

Like the Saab 340, this aircraft be operated by a crew of three - two flight and one cabin – and will be based in Glasgow.

Loganair operates in Flybe colours on the route.
