Loganair has appointed a new permanent operations director as it struggles to improve the reliability of its planes.

Edinburgh-born Maurice Boyle is an experienced manager with 35 years of commercial aviation experience.

His past jobs include being general manager of DHL Aviation Middle East and managing director of Thomsonfly. Early in his career, he worked for Dan-Air, based in Aberdeen.

Mr Boyle replaces former Cal Mac chief, Phil Preston who has not been in post since June due to health reasons.

Lorna Bruce - who previously worked for Eastern Isles - was temporarily undertaking the role. She will remain with the airline for the next few months, working closely with the engineering department to improve manpower and training requirements.

Mr Boyle said: "I’m proud to join the team that chief executive Stewart Adams has assembled and know that we can restore Loganair’s punctuality performance and passenger confidence.”

Loganair chief executive Stewart Adams said: "With Maurice in post, the director operations role is now a permanent position and will be responsible for achieving our operational performance targets by working closely with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure they provide the level of service we need to achieve acceptable levels of punctuality and reliability.”
