Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, has met with Loganair bosses over the ongoing flight delays suffered by island passengers.

The MSP has been "inundated in the past few months with complaints about disruption to this lifeline service."

During today's meeting, he reiterated islanders' concerns about disruptions to air services for the Western Isles in the last year, particularly the high number of flights running more than three hours late.

Assurances were sought as to how Loganair planned to tackle this in 2016.

Alasdair Allan said the forum was "productive" and said the company acknowledged their "unacceptable" record on punctuality.

The airline identified a "number of issues" as being in need of work in the future, including workforce planning and ensuring an adequate supply of spare parts in Glasgow.

Plans to introduce two 50-seater Saab aircraft and a 31-seater Dornier aircraft should help improve matters, hopes Loganair.

"The company and myself undertook to keep in touch in the coming months to monitor progress," said Mr Allan.

"Given that Loganair appears to be the only company interested in running these services it’s obviously important that a solution is found within the company to address the recent problems it has had.

"I know that the Transport Minister, Derek Mackay, will be seeking assurances about this when he meets with them on Monday."
