A delegation from Loganair is to fly to the Western Isles to discuss the airline's reliability troubles and high fares with the Comhairle.

Both sides will hold a face-to-face meeting in Stornoway on Monday.

Loganair's new operations director Maurice Boyle and engineering director Barry Stone will hear demands to improve punctuality and service as well as criticism of ticket prices.

A council spokesman said: "The primary purpose of meeting is to get an update on progress associated with their Project OPTIMA.

"This is a programme of projects and initiatives launched during the summer of 2015, the aim of which is to improve punctuality and which involves “a complete review of the company’s operation to ensure that all links in the chain are robust and fit for purpose.”

The project, launched by the company in the context of “unacceptable” levels of punctuality between March and July 2015, comprises a total of 82 areas which “have the ability to impact the operation” and each of which is being “scrutinised to ensure they are not adversely impacting punctuality.”

The council spokesman added: No doubt other issues will also be discussed such as concerns around aircraft availability; the cost of air fares; and ensuring effective communications with passengers prior to and in the event of any planned or unplanned interruptions to services."
