Two island schools have been successful in a science and engineering festival for schools in the north of Scotland.

Lochmaddy Primary School won the Primary Highlands and Islands Club of the year award while Breasclete School held onto its Primary STEM Challenge champion title.

Twenty schools from across the region gathered to showcase their achievements in science and engineering and compete for a range of prizes, as well as undertaking a series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) problems set by a range of local companies.

Event Partners were The Highland Council, Global Energy Group, and Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Jane Martin, Programme Director of SCDI’s Young Engineers and Science Clubs said: “The aim of Young Engineers and Science Clubs is to show young people that science and technology is not only fun but can lead to a great career.

“The standard and quality of the projects which are showcased are fantastic, proving that youngsters in the region have the creativity and skills required to pursue careers in science and engineering and really make a difference to Scotland’s economy.”
