The MV Loch Seaforth has berthed in Stornoway harbour today for the first time.

But the 7,800 gross tonnage ship cannot go alongside the multi-million pound pier specially prepared for her as fendering works have been hit by extensive delays.

Instead, the Loch Seaforth went alongside the quay Arnish at 5pm on Monday.

The £42 million ferry plans to stay alongside for two nights.

The Loch Seaforth may sail elsewhere tomorrow but is due to return to the Arnish berth later in the day.

The ship has been testing out piers and linkspans in Orkney and Scrabster during an weekend excursion around the north of Scotland. She also docked at Ullapool.

The new £42 million ferry will commence sailings on her designated route between Stornoway and Ullapool, once pier upgrading works in Stornoway harbour are completed.
