Checks on her fast rescue boats were also done at the weekend.

Legal safety certificates to enable the ship to commercially sail with passengers and freight lorries have been issued.

The £42 million vessel sailed out of the Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG) shipyard around 9am this morning.

The 7,800 gross tonnage ship is making over 20 knots and is due to arrive on the Clyde on Friday morning.

The pier in Stornoway is not ready to accommodate the vessel which is .

Works to upgrade and extend the ferry berth has been hit by delays. Bad weather may create further disruptions.
