The MV Loch Seaforth is due to start berthing trials at Stornoway’s number three pier from tomorrow (Tues).

The last bollard is due to be fastened in place on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seaforth is expected to carry out initial docking tests against the new fendering.

Murdo Murray, vice-chair of Stornoway Port Authority said the body expected the “pier will be ready to take the vessel tomorrow (Tues) afternoon.

“That’s what we are aiming for. We have been working very hard over the last while to try and ensure this.

“Hopefully the vessel will be able to do its initial berth later tomorrow.”

Weather, accidents and other issues added to the delays.

Rough seas over the last few days resulted in disruption to ferry sailings which in turn held back delivery of essential components.

Mr Murray said: “Thankfully, they came today so there are bolts going in to deck for the bollards. These will be grouted, and that is the last piece required for the ferry to come alongside.”

The MV Loch Seaforth ferry is presently alongside the Arnish quay until Wednesday.

As familiarisation trials properly get underway she will remain base din Stornoway harbour.

Passenger sailings are due to start by the end of this month.
