The boss of South Uist salmon farming firm Loch Duart is to step down as managing director.

Nick Joy, the company’s founding director, says he wishes to pursue other opportunities as well as stepping down due to health and family life reasons.

Nick said: “It has been an amazing 15 years and I don’t regret a day of it.  Thank you to all those that have worked with me.  It has been, and remains, a constant source of pride that we have achieved what we have.”

He added: “I have been very lucky to work with people of such integrity and commitment. I am also delighted to add that you haven’t seen the last of me.”

In March next year, Nick will move to the role of technical director and look after Loch Duart’s policies and principles, as well as helping to develop new and better farming practices.

Loch Duart – which owns and runs a smokehouse in Lochcarnan as well as fish farms in the north of Scotland – celebrated its 15th birthday last month.

Loch Duart chairman, Dr Andrew Barbour, said: “Nick’s enthusiasm and creativity has made the company grow, win many awards and gain much recognition.

“His vision and determination have shaped the success of the company as it is today.

“Nick will leave a lasting legacy and we are taking our time to find just the right the person to take over the reins, someone who appreciates our unique style and has the energy and drive to continue to lead the business with our established and experienced team."
