Local tourism strategy to be launched             7/4/14

The new local tourism strategy for the Outer Hebrides – shaping one of the islands’ most important industries up to the year 2020 - is being launched at the Outer Hebrides Tourism Conference on Tuesday.

The theme of the event organised by the Outer Hebrides Tourism Industry Association (OHTIA) is about turning the islands’ assets into valuable visitor experiences.

The programme features an excellent mix of speakers ranging from James Stewart, CEO of the Royal Yachting Association Scotland to best-selling author Peter May who set his recent Lewis Trilogy on the islands.

All the speakers have direct experience of what the Outer Hebrides has to offer and how the industry can focus its energy on turning the islands’ truly outstanding assets into high quality, value for money, authentic experiences for visitors.

Ian Fordham, Chair of OHTIA said: “The conference will provide an invaluable insight into what others have to say about us.

“Our islands have great potential but we need to be constantly aware of how we can make the best of our assets and turn them into exceptional tourist experiences.”

The conference takes place in An Lanntair on Tuesday and in the Dark Island Hotel on Wednesday.
