Local community landowners conference             10/9/14

How Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Western Isles community landowners can best work together is to be discussed at a conference in the Caladh Inn, Stornoway on Thursday.

The day-long event – organised by the Comhairle in partnership with Community Land Scotland – will explore a range of topics relating to the daily management and development of existing and aspiring community landowners in a bid to maximise opportunities for the islands community owned land sectors.

As part of the conference Duncan MacPherson, West Harris Trust, will present a case study on the purchase of an estate and its development while Lisa Maclean, Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn, will chair a discussion on land management, land use and crofting opportunities.

Alistair Macleod of North Harris Trust will be joined by Tighean Innse Gall’s Stewart Wilson to look at housing opportunities for community landowners.

Joe MacPhee from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Huw Francis, Storas Uibhist, will discuss business development and funding opportunities.

It is hoped the conference will yield answers as to how the Comhairle and Western Isles community landowners can positively work together.
