Poets chance to develop live performance skills          14/2/12

Poets in the Highlands and Islands have the chance to develop their live performance skills in March through a workshop being held in March in Inverness.

The workshop - 'Developing Your Spoken Voice' -will explore how writers can bring their poetry alive for an audience and how to make the most of their live event and reading opportunities. Led by poets Jenny Lindsay and Pauline Prior-Pitt, and promoter Peggy Hughes, the workshop will be packed with practical information and advice - with tips on everything from how to develop your own style and control your nerves to how to prepare for an event, and there will be lots of practical exercises and plenty of time for discussion.

The workshop takes place from 1.30pm-5.30pm, on Saturday 10th March, 2012 at Anam Cara, Inverness.

The workshop, which is open to poets living and working in the Highlands and Islands with some publication / performance track record, is free but booking is essential. HI~Arts is also offering poets living in the Islands wishing to attend financial assistance with the cost of travel and accommodation. Contact Peter Urpeth, HI~Arts Writing Development Coordinator at: peter@hi-arts.co.uk to book a place or for more information on the event.

This event is part of Turning the Next Page, a programme of work being undertaken by literature organisations in Scotland with investment from Creative Scotland to support writers living and working in Scotland, especially those who are at an early stage of their careers, and is presented by The Writer’s Compass, NAWE in partnership with HI~Arts and the Scottish Poetry Library with investment from Creative Scotland.
