Lisbon Lions heading for Uist event

15 November 2014

The Lisbon Lions is the nickname given to the Celtic team which won the European Cup at the Estádio Nacional near Lisbon, Portugal, on 25 May 1967, defeating Internazionale 2-1. All but one member of the 15-man squad were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park in Glasgow.

John Clark partnered Billy McNeill in the centre of defence and Bertie Auld played centre midfield.

Unfortunately,  Jim Craig who also played in the final has had to pull out of the Uist visit.

Two Lisbon Lions are the VIP guests at the Uist Celtic Supporters’ Club annual dinner dance.

Bertie Auld and John Clark will join Celtic FC director Brian Wilson in the Dark Island Hotel on Saturday 22nd November.

Last year, the supporters’ club scored a coup when Billy McNeil attended the event.

Celtic were the first British club to win the European Cup, and are still the only Scottish club ever to have reached the final.
