Loganair will continue to operate the Barra to Glasgow air service for the next four years after it won a new subsidy from the Scottish Government to run the route.

The vital air link is the only one to the island after the Comhairle abolished the lifeline inter-island service to Benbecula which also connected to Stornoway and Inverness.

The new specifications on the Glasgow run includes increasing return trips to Barra to two per day on Monday to Saturday.

From October, Sunday services will now operate all year round.

Loganair will operate the route with a Canadian-built modern version of the Twin Otter aircraft, which entered service last month.
