Open day raises £1300 for Leverburgh lifeboat       16/5/14

Over £1300 has been raised for the upkeep of Leverburgh lifeboat after an open day held by the RNLI station.

The event on Saturday attracted people from far and wide and there was a special visit from Stormy Stan, the RNLI’s mascot.

The occasion was also used to highlight the importance of safety at sea.

The RNLI’s sea-safety officer was present and issued advice to people of all ages about staying safe, and several lifejackets were checked over – a service which is provided free of charge by the RNLI.

Through donation buckets, a raffle, auction and bottle stall the fantastic sum of £1327.94 was raised.

This money will go to RNLI funds, and will be credited to Leverburgh Lifeboat Station.

Everyone at the station would like to thank all those who came along on the day, to those who made donations in various ways, and to those who lent a hand before, during and after the event.

The next fundraising event will be held at Lochmaddy Hall, North Uist, this Saturday between 11 am to 4 pm.

There will be a fancy dress competition for children, various stalls, silent auction, raffle, RNLI souvenirs, face painting, Stormy Stan, refreshments and much more.
