New Year’s Day was interrupted for the volunteer crew of Stornoway RNLI as the ‘Roger & Joy Freeman’ relief lifeboat launched just after 6pm.

The local lifesavers were out to reports of a flare sighted behind Holm by Stornoway.

And although the RNLI crew undertook a coastal search from the NATO jetty at Holm to Grimshader and back to Stornoway, nothing was found.

The ‘Roger & Joy Freeman’ was called out again only a few days later as the volunteer crew launched at 6.10pm on Sunday to assist the coastguard with an incident in the Point area.
