A mobile library van service is being considered for Barra, the only community which does not receive the service.

Cllr Andrew Walker encouraged the Comhaire to develop a service, telling the council's development committee that "good ferry links" would allow the Uist van to travel across the Sound of Barra.

Council official, Trish Botten, said the idea to provide a level of mobile library service for Barra is "definitely on the agenda for consideration."

The committee heard library vans play a vital role in ensuring equality of access to a wide range of books and other audio and visual content. A total of 30% of all loans are issued through the service.
