The trial of two island youths accused of murdering 16-year-old Liam Aitchison is due to commence within the next few days.

However, it will not get underway on Tuesday which was previously penciled-in as a floating start date said a Glasgow High Court official.

Jonathan Mackinnon and Stefan Millar, both aged 22 years and from Lewis, are accused of killing the South Uist teenager in November 2011.

Mackinnon, whose address was previously given as Lossiemouth Road, Elgin, and Millar, of Dunabban Road, Inverness, deny the charge.

The trial was originally due to open in February but was adjourned to this week.

As a “floating trial” the actual start date was left flexible to accommodate any over-running cases at Glasgow High Court.

It is now expected to commence between Wednesday and next Monday.

Liam's body was found in a derelict two-bedroomed house adjacent to farmland at Steinish on the edge of Stornoway airport.
