Teenager had heavy spanner as weapon 2/2/12
An assault victim wrote a letter of support for his assailant when the case was called at StornowaySheriff Court this week.
Daniel McCulloch, 19, of 13 Stonefield, Breasclete, Lewis, was sentenced to two years supervision under a community payback order.
He must also undertake 180 hours of community service. He will be tagged for the next nine months, preventing him from going out on Friday and Saturday nights.
Procurator fiscal David Teale told the court that McCulloch brandished a weapon at the man during a confrontation on Saturday 25th June last year.
This followed an earlier altercation in a Stornoway pub when McCulloch seized the man by the scruff of the neck and broke a chain he was wearing.
McCulloch's lawyer said his client had drank a substantial amount of alcohol and was encouraged by others to have the confrontation and to take the spanner as a weapon.
He said McCulloch realised the folly he was involved in and dropped the heavy spanner as he came face to face with his victim.
