A Lewis man has reached the grand age of 100.
DA ‘Dolangie’ Morrison was born on Christmas Day 1922 in Cromore, Pair. His father registered the birth four days later following a trek to Garyvard and a boat across Loch Erisort to the registrar’s office in Keose.
Comhairle convener, Kenny Macleod presented Dolangie with a gift hamper on behalf of the communities of the Western Isles.
As the youngest in the family he was spoilt by his five sisters..
After leaving school at 14 he spent two summer seasons on fishing boats before moving on to a stint in a Stornoway mill. Glasgow then becon with a job at Howdens engineering.
He opened Stag Garage after returning to the island, not retiring until he was aged 73.
He and his wife - who sadly passed away nearly six years ago - met at the Masonic dance hall in Stornoway.
From an early age he loved the outdoors, fishing and shooting which he carried on until he gave up his gun licence aged 95.
Crofting is another of his passions and he remains fiercely independent.
