Over £3,000 for local charities has been raised by the Lewis Carnival.

Despite rain on the day, many hundreds of islanders turned out to watch the annual parade of colourful lorries and people in fancy dress wind its way through Stornoway.

The miserable weather depleted the crowd at the stalls and attractions at South Beach yet the fundraising added up to a respectable total.

A carnival committee spokesperson said the sum raised was a "phenomenal effort from a very charitable community"

She added: "We will update you all in the coming days of the chosen charities who will benefit this time round.

"Thank you all again, we could not do it without your continued support."
