Leverburgh lifeboat call out 22/7/12
Leverburgh lifeboat has been called out to aid a stricken vessel off Skye.
A pleasure yacht with two people on board was dragging its anchor and in danger of running aground in 40 knot winds in Loch Bay by the Waternish Peninsula.
The lifeboat was to attach a tow line to the helpless craft and intends to pull her to safety.
In case she sank in the rough seas, the Stornoway coastguard helicopter flew to the incident and monitored the yacht, until the lifeboat arrived.
The incident is the leverburgh’s lifeboat its longest callout since arriving on station on May.
Though Skye has its own lifeboat stationed at Portree, the Leverburgh boat is closer with a clear 15 mile run across the Minch to the location.
