The Leanne Fund is marking World Cystic Fibrosis Day with the start of a new era for the charity.

The organisation, which supports young people with cystic fibrosis across the Highlands and Islands, has taken on its first employee.

The appointment of Chrisetta Mitchell as development manager will allow its expansion plans to move forward and offer services to additional families.

The fund is also opening a new office in Point Street, Stornoway.

The Leanne Fund - set up in 2009 in memory of Leanne Mitchell from Lewis - funds special treats and a range of support services for young people affected by cystic fibrosis.

Recently, it was awarded £133,301 of lottery funding to allow expansion to the Grampian area.

Ann Marie Murray, chair of The Leanne Fund said: “This is a hugely significant milestone for us which has been made possible through crucial funding from The Big Lottery Fund.”

Chrisetta Mitchell, Development Manager said: “I'm delighted that The Leanne Fund has reached this important point and I am honoured and privileged to be asked to take forward the development project.”

Meanwhile, the Leanne Fund trailer will be outside Stornoway Town Hall from 1pm to 6pm to help raise awareness about the condition.
