Laxdale residents to wait for all-
Scottish Water is advising customers in areas of Laxdale and Marybank who have been advised to boil their water that a sample of the water is now undergoing analysis.
An update will be issued tomorrow afternoon regarding whether the supply is safe to drink as normal.
Some 400 properties have been advised to boil their drinking water by Scottish Water who are working in conjunction with Dr Ken Oates, Consultant in Public Health Medicine NHS Highland and NHS Western Isles.
The utility company says it is a precautionary measure to address any potential risk to water quality. Once samples confirm that the water meets the strict parameters specified by the Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR) then a further announcement will be made and affected customers will receive an all clear leaflet through their door.
A burst water main resulted in a loss of supply to some customers in Stornoway at around 4pm yesterday. Scottish Water isolated the main and excavated to perform a repair. During the repair discovered that it lay in the same trench as a sewer which had been damaged.
Both the sewer and water mains were repaired during the night and subsequently flushed and cleaned as part of the process. However, water samples require to be fully tested before things return to normal.
Customers in the affected areas received a leaflet through their door from Scottish Water last night advising them to boil their water until further notice.
If customers have not received a leaflet and their address is not in the affected postcode list then their water supply is unaffected and is safe to drink. Any customers who are unsure or need further assistance should call the Scottish Water Customer Helpline on 0845 601 88 55.
