Laxdale water is given the all-
Scottish Water is advising customers in areas of Laxdale and Maryba that tap water is now safe to drink after samples were given the all clear.
A burst mains in Willowglen Road in Stornoway had left a wide area without supplies on Tuesday afternoon.
It affects the Laxdale and Marybank area including Maryhill, Benside, Newvalley, and Newmarket.
It was originally hoped to get the water back on within a few hours but the problem was more complicated than first thought.
During the repair it was discovered that it lay in the same trench as a sewer which had been damaged.
The sewer was repaired and the water main was also fixed, flushed and cleaned, allowing supplies to be restored yesterday (wed).
Until now affected households were instructed to boil water and samples were sent for tests.
Simon Harrison, Water Operations Manager, Scottish Water, said: “We extend our thanks
to our local customers for their patience and understanding while a difficult overnight
repair was performed in harsh weather conditions and subsequent sampling had to be
carried out before the all-
“The notice to boil drinking water was a precautionary measure to address any potential risk to water quality.”
Samples have now confirmed that the water meets the strict parameters specified by the Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR). Affected customers will receive a leaflet through their door which will confirm their water supply is back to normal.
