Iain Farquhar Maclean of Skye has been appointed as the new deputy chair of the Scottish Land Court.

A panel was formed to provide advice to Scottish Ministers on suitable candidates to fill the post.

Mr Maclean is a former legal assistant to the Lord President of the Court of Session.

Originally from the Isle of Skye, he is a graduate of the universities of Aberdeen, Cambridge and Edinburgh.

He was admitted as a member of the Faculty of Advocates in 1994 and served on the Scottish Government’s EU Agricultural Subsidies Appeals Procedure External Advisory Panel from 2005 to 2013.

Mr Maclean is in civil practice at the Scottish Bar where he specialises in property litigation, the law of landlord and tenant, trusts and succession.

The part-time job of three days per week has a £132,184 salary.

The Scottish Land Court has the authority to resolve a range of disputes including disputes between landlords and tenants, in agriculture and crofting. The court is based in Edinburgh but holds hearings throughout Scotland.
