Isles Labour Party welcome leadership changes 22/12/11
The Western Isles Labour Party welcomes the appointment of Johann Lamont and Anas Sarwar as leader and deputy leader of the Scottish Labour Party.
The local Labour Party had endorsed these two candidates in October and members were
inspired by Anas Sarwar when he visited Stornoway during the election and Johann
Lamont has deep knowledge of island issues. She was instrumental in securing funding
for the Bridge Centre in Stornoway.
Matt Bruce, chairman of the local Labour Party
said: “With a new team in place there will be better scrutiny of the actions of the
current Edinburgh administration which is currently hitting remote and rural parts
of Scotland very very hard.
“Their centralising of power away from local authorities and protestations of blaming
Westminster or Europe whenever there is criticism are wearing thin. We look forward
to the New Year and all it brings.”
