Sirs,

How often has Mr McCormack written to the media complaining about the SNP government's policy of freezing the council tax ? If he got his way with this there would be many more families on these islands in the grip of poverty.

The SNP Scottish Government does what it can, but we have to remember that within the block grant there is not enough money to redress the Westminster hardship problems and it would be illegal to do so without permission from Westminster.

The poverty problem and solution lie at Westminster, a problem which his Labour Party helped to create and plan to sustain when they walked through the lobbies with their Tory cousins for another £35 billion to be taken out of the public purse.

The Labour Party's solution to poverty in the past has been to redefine what is poverty and remove 1,100,000 children from the total. Done with the stroke of a pen, which didn't put any more food on the table or keep them warm.

Councillor McCormack, Mr Morrison and their party may talk big on poverty. What actually counts are actions which have been alien to the Labour Party for decades.
