Letter:  Labour posted missing

17 October 2016

Sir,

Despite Brexit not being until 2019, the indications are that the UK economy could be heading towards a major crisis. Months have passed since the EU referendum, yet the Conservative Westminster Government is devoid of plans and strategies to address Brexit. When you consider it was the Tories who instigated the referendum, they should have had plans to cover all outcomes.

Labour, the official opposition party at Westminster, are too busy with leadership elections and infighting to hold the Tory government to account. We have an inept Tory government being allowed to continually blunder along,  because the official Labour opposition have been posted missing.

In Scotland, both Labour and the Conservatives are more focused on protecting the English economy than ours. In 2014 they emphasised the importance of the EU to Scottish economy. Now, it appears they are more committed to leaving the EU without anything to fill the vacuum.

The leader of the Conservatives in Scotland, is more committed to appearing on 'Celebrity Come Dancing' than resolving the new issues that come with Brexit.

As for the leader of Labour in Scotland, she is in a serious sad state of confusion. She has still to decide whether she supports or opposes the UK Labour leader. She is that confused, she forgets that it is the Tories at  Westminster who are behind the austerity programme. She also conveniently forgets that Labour walked through the Westminster lobbies hand in hand with Tories voting for the excessive conservative austerity, or that Labour campaigned for similar cuts.

These two parties continue to try to mislead the Scottish public that they care about Scotland, when in fact, their main focus is to ensure that London is prosperous
