Sir,

It is with some amazement that we read of the Labour candidate offering an opinion regarding the Lochboisdale - Mallaig ferry service.

In what is obviously quite an embarrassing episode for him, we remember that he was an MSP and government minister, along with having tourism as part of his remit at this time, when he, and the Labour Party, axed the service in 2001.

In 2006 the community raised a case for the service to be re-introduced; Alasdair Morrison had the golden opportunity to redeem himself for his failure in 2001. It is no secret he failed again.

What makes this even more damning is the fact that during this time, Alasdair Morrison had the benefit of having his party in power at both Westminster and Holyrood, the level of support available to him to make the ferry service happen was enormous.

The next time he decides to take issue on matters like this, he should think back to how he and his party let not only our communities, but also our country down, with their poor management and economic recklessness.
