The Western Isles Labour Party has selected Rhoda Grant as its candidate to fight the Western Isles seat in the Scottish elections in May.

Making the announcement on social media, a spokesperson said: "Delighted to announce Rhoda Grant has been selected as our candidate for the 2016 Holyrood election."

Ms Grant is a Labour list MSP in the Scottish Parliament for the Highlands and Islands.

The 52-year-old who was born in Stornoway - her mother hails from Point - was raised in Wester Ross and now lives in Inverness.

It is understood local party members were impressed with Mrs Grant's track record in raising Western Isles issues over recent years.
