A two year community payback order has been imposed on Colin John Mackenzie of 4 Muirneag Court, Stornoway, for assaulting and injuring a female.

The 49-year-old was also banned from drinking alcohol until February 2017 and was fined £180 when he was sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Mackenzie denied the charge and alleged the victim had “walloped” him with a dog chain.

After trial, he was found guilty of striking her head against a kitchen unit and kick her on the body.

The court heard that alcohol was involved and the victim was screaming during the incident at her Stornoway address in October.

The victim told the court: “He was shaking me. The side of my face hit a cupboard door. I was lying on the floor.”

Blood found on the kitchen unit was consistent with her injury, said procurator fiscal David Teale.

Defence lawyer Katy Begg said there were “so many discrepancies” in the “varying accounts” given to the court.

She maintained prosecution witnesses were “unreliable.”

Sheriff David Sutherland had “no doubt there was a lot more drink consumed that the court has been told about.”

The sheriff said the “facts, circumstances, photos, police evidence and circumstances,” pointed to Mackenzie’s guilt.
