Jury trial collapses 5/9/14
A jury trial against a man accused of a serious assault collapsed when the main witness maintained it was all an accident this week.
Malcolm Macleod, whose address was given as 11 Henderson Place, Epping Green, Hertford, denied assaulting a woman at a house in Scalpay in January.
It was claimed she was severely injured by him allegedly pushing her onto the floor and repeatedly hitting her head against the floor as well as punching her on her head and body.
The case got underway in front of a jury of 15 people at Stornoway Sheriff Court.
Giving evidence, the woman insisted her injures were accidental.
Sheriff James Scott found Macleod not guilty.
