Both Job Centre premises in the Western Isles face closure.

However, the service will still continue in nearby locations .

The Job Centre on Francis Street, Stornoway, is set to shut.

The DWP office in Castle Street is being retained. Hebrides News understands the jobseekers’ service is expected to transfer there.

The tenancy of Kinloch House in Benbecula is to be formally given up. The service has already ceased in the Balivanich building with a job centre outreach worker based in the Comhairle’s offices in Balivanich.

The changes are part of a widespread reform of Jobcentre Plus offices and benefit centres.

Damian Hinds, Minster for Employment, said the buildings are under-used as the majority of people access their benefits through the internet.

Meanwhile, across the UK, 2,500 more work coaches will be recruited to help jobseekers find employment.
