Joanna Lumley filming in the Hebrides for new travel show

6 October 2020

Joanna Lumley is filming in the Western Isles for a new travel programme.

The Absolutely Fabulous sitcom star travelled up from Uist yesterday and has been shooting scenes around the islands.

Joanna and her camera crew were tightlipped about what kind of show they were making.

But Hebrides News understands they are recording for a travelgoue which is due to air on ITV next year.

The 74-year-old actress - who is three-quarters Scottish and says she checks the weather forecast for the Outer Hebrides everyday -  just had to include the Western Isles in the show though not everything filmed will end up in the programme.

Over the last fortnight, she also visited various spots around Glasgow for the documentary, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet up with Scots comedian Janey Godley.

On her journey, Joanna seeks to capture a side of Scotland off the well beaten tourist track such as speaking to immigrants who have taken the country to their hearts and successfully resettled, including in the Hebrides.

On Tuesday, the crew were filming Mohammed Edris who came to Stornoway a few years ago.

They recorded the craftsman in his upholstery workshop in Stornoway where he recycles old chairs, recovering them with Harris Tweed.

Jonanna was delighted to pose for a photo with him at the end of shooting.

Mr Edris had an absolutely fabulous time with the star.

He said: It's been a great day with Joanne Lumley in my workshop today, filming for her latest TV series.”
