An islander has been jailed for one year after a string of offences.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard Alasdair Maciver admitted threatening behaviour by shouting and swearing while making claims there was money missing from his room at the Old House hostel in Stornoway on 1 November.

Dressed only in boxer shorts he struggled with police officers, assaulted one of them by striking out towards her, ripping off her epaulette and taking her earpiece out

Later, 3.4 grams of cannabis was found in his chest of drawers.

When he appeared from custody the following day, Maciver caused a breach of the peace in the court building after handcuffs were taken off him. He headbutted a court door, was shouting and swearing, and struggled with G4S officers.

Sheriff David Sutherland jailed him for 12 months backdated to 3 November.
