Jail for islander who threatened police officers

A Stornoway man who made verbal threats to two police officers and said he had a shotgun on New Year’s Day has been jailed for six months.

 

James Mackenzie of 66 Perceval Road, Stornoway, also frightened neighbours by tried to force his way into their home.

 

He entered their front garden and persistently banged on their front door, attempting to force it open, placing the occupants in state of fear and alarm.

 

The 59-year-old former forestry worker pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court this week.

 

In addition, he admitted making offensive sexual remarks and also utter verbal threats of violence in a call to the Police Scotland base in Inverness.

 

Sheriff David Sutherland backdated the prison sentence to 3 January - from when Mackenzie was remanded in custody.

 

When he is released from prison, Mackenzie is banned from drinking alcohol until early 2017 and must undertake 120 hours of unpaid community service work for the threatening behaviour against his neighbour.
