The Italian Ambassador to the UK is visiting the islands today.

Pasquale Terraciano is on a tour supporting Italian culture in Scotland which includes a concert in Stornoway.

A spokesman said Italy had a "strong love for and cultural affinity with Scotland."

Hosted by the Comhairle and the Italian Cultural Institute of Edinburgh, the concert will be performed by Italian duo Panè -Villani. They will take the audience on a musical journey through varied cultures and styles, sharing with the public their talent and passion for the universal language of music.

Soprano Isabel Panè and guitarist Luca Villani obtained their Music degrees from the Conservatories of Matera and Rome respectively. Luca’s research on rare classical guitar pieces and Isabel’s penchant for jazz and blues have been fused to form a versatile duo able to perform diverse recitals, ranging from the Renaissance to the Tango, which have as their focus the blending of sounds and a strong stage presence.

Council convenor, Norman MacDonald, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to host the Italian ambassador and look forward to welcoming him to our islands. We hope that he will enjoy his visit and we particularly look forward to this evening’s concert.”

The concert is part of the programme called “Edinburgh and Beyond” showcasing Italian music and culture.

It is the first time that Italy, represented by the Italian Ambassador, embarks on such a wide tour in Scotland with such a broad range of musical events.
