People across the Western Isles fell silent in remembrance of those who died in war.

The two-minute silence was observed at 11am on Armistice Day yesterday (Tues) in schools, hospitals, shops, building sites and workplaces across the islands.

Children stood by desks while adults paused from their work to quietly reflect on the ultimate sacrifice of others in conflicts across the world.

Armistice Day is held to mark the anniversary of the day hostilities in World War One officially ended - at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

This year it commemorates 100 years since WW1.
